Residents working together can reach areas that the council alone cannot reach, and there are a range or resources locally that can help people get going.
Tidy Up Team: The Brighton & Hove Tidy Up team is run by the council and helps residents wanting to improve their area with training and resources as well as a programme of action days. Find the Tidy Up Team on Facebook HERE or the council website HERE
The Good Gym:
The Good Gym is a running group which carries out community projects a part of the run. This can be helping with a gardening, painting or clearing project. To request help with a project or find out more see their website HERE
Other local initiatives:
The North Laine Tagging Taskforce: The Tagging Taskforce are a group of residents in the North Laine area who come together to paint out unwanted graffiti in the area. They are supported by the North Laine Community Association, and by the council who have provided them with a secure storage unit for tools and equipment. (The council also have a paint re-use scheme, directed donated paint to community projects and offer other resources for community graffiti removal – more on that HERE)
Hanover Rubbish Friends: Each month on a Sunday, Hanover residents get together to carry out a community litter pick along the streets. It is supported by the council which provides rubbish sacks, gloves, tabbards etc… and the group chose which areas are most in need of attention, and turns a grimy task into a fun, family centred community event.
Would either of these schemes work in our area? Would anyone like to start similar groups here?
